Being able to win in anyother weight class in a sense is easier then the middle weights… you ask why? A keys points no explanation needed

  • when you are a light weight and you are strong you will be able to beat 80% of the population as long as you are near their skill level, When you are faster then the other heavyweights you will be able to beat 80% of the population with speed. When you are a middle wieght just because you are stronger, quicker, faster or more powerful its just so many different styles that it makes it so you will need a game plan built more then just on speed or muscle alone.

Wrestling in the middle weight classes

Dealing with the middle weights is not as simple as the heavy weights nor the lower weights considering the variety of styles that exist in the middle weights. There is a need to be strong, technical and conditioned in order to be successful in these weight classes. When dealing with the lower weights there is not as much need for strength and muscle as it is in the other weight classes. On the other hand middle weights are not to rely on using their weight to crush their opponents in submission like the heavy weights. Middle weight wrestling is a combination of the 2 due to having different opponents who are more likely to be quick, fast and moderately strong with a few who have great amount of strength and others as fast/quick as the lower weights.

Finding your style is something that may take years to do, but once you have figured it out and know what works best for YOU, you have it. The key to winning in the middle weights is perseverance, it is harder to win in these weight classes due to the numerous amounts of styles in them. When you think its all about the strength you will find someone who happens to be faster with enough strength that your strength is not a factor or you may feel it is all about your speed and your moderate amount of strength you posses and then you find someone who is slow but too strong to move due to you not being able to match their strength. In these weight classes are the most interesting not because of the number of moves they do within the period for the clash of styles that are there. Which makes it harder to determine what strategies to implement dealing with ever match.

Considering so, what makes a winning middle weight wrestler… well roundedness.

Makings of a winning middle weight wrestler

  1. Being able to adapt to your opponents style- in order to do this you must practice with many different partners acouple of guys smaller then you and a acouple bigger but they all must have different types of style of wrestling.
  2. Having a good amount of strength- You do not have to be the strongest but you have to have a respectable amount of strength to be able to hold your ground to the individuals who are small but strong. Many lower weights can succeed in the sport with very little due to the fact that strength is not needed to win in their weight classes but if they were to have strength, technique and speed they will be in a different class of their own. From lower weight to middle weight the need to be in the weight room is curcial- there are few who posses enough natural strength to be effective but imagine if they were to begin adding their natural strength with added conditioning of their muscles by using weights
  3. Good amount of speed- Unlike the heavy weights the need for speed is needed more so. Using speed ladders, sprints and speed drills will help anyone who is lacking effective amount of speed needed to succed in the middle weights
  4. Expand your arsonal of moves- Much like the lower weights the need to know variety of different moves is needed to succeed so one must always look to continue learning new moves in order to be able to atleast have knowledge enough to counter the attacks, employ the new move when someone knows your old moves are coming and being able to break down your opponent.
  5. Finding 3-5 moves on bottom, on your feet, for break downs and pinning combination- vairiety is the spice of life- you will still need to know what works best for you and use good set ups to make sure they are effective.
