Philosophy of wrestling
.Wrestling teaches kids how to overcome problems and giving them a chance to learn values that come from humility meaning that instead of them being able to rely on a quarterback, a running back or a whole line that may be better then you are means you can still win a super bowl, college championship, High school championship or at whatever level you are at, possible. In the world of one on one full contact sports you can only rely on one person, yourself. In the stage you are place in front of knows if you are the best or worst on the team because their is no line, there is no support but coaches and other members of the team on the side line cheering you on to victory. If you win or lose you are the one to blame.
The style of a wrestler often times dictates what they should work on in the wrestling room. One should focus on their weak points while also maintaining and perfecting their strong points. The purpose of focusing on the weak points of ones wrestling skills is not to lose what you have worked hard to obtain but to strengthen the wrestler as a whole.
There have been many good wrestlers who could have been great if they just learned what was their weakness was and capitalized on it by training to make it a strength then to keep their weakness a weakness. Some things are genetics meaning that only with isolate concentrated training one can overcome that genetic trait and over ride the lack of strength, speed, endurance or whatever may be designed in your DNA by your parents by training hard enough to counter act the gene to become faster, stronger, more agile and/or become built for endurance. If one was to do so it would increase their winning percentage tremendously
There are so many different techniques a wrestler can use to defeat their opponent which makes it hard to train a team or individual if you don’t know their strengths and weakness. Some times with some it may take years to catch what is missing in the recipe for a wrestler to become good to great… but once you do you should work on making it a priority for them to train to correct those faults and turn them into their strength. Even when it is easily detected what the faults are– it may take several concentrated training sessions to work on the technique or movement due to genetics or not learning/executing them properly- some may go as far to say they were taught wrong.
What is the use of someone who is incredibly strong who has no technique or someone who is a upper weight who has allot of technique with no intensity or a wrestler who relies solely on the headlock–> mediocre at best must likely has a 50-80% winning percentage at most and simple adjustments when wrestling them makes the number decrease pending on coaching or the opponent knowing them. One thing about any sport–>Scouts are useful. This is why wrestlers need to train hard in multiple ways- To become a overall wrestler and not just one dimensional competitor.
On the other hand, depending on the time given before top level wrestling competition is expected to take place you train different. The time given before has a huge effect on what one focus should be on. If you have 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months to prepare for the prestigious competition to take place- you train differently. Knowing who you will be competing against is the best way to be prepared for them- certain counters can help prepare for them… example would be if you know they love to do firemen’s carry you can actually grab your opponents bicep muscle with the arm over the other arm which stops the fireman’s carry in its track or if your opponent loves to take people down using a bear hug a head lock is a good counter. In the end, our true opponent is really ourselves, we can not control or determine others behaviors or movements–> only our own.
In order to be a valid threat on the wrestling mat, there are 5 factors invovled
The 5 factors of wrestling are:
- Mental preparedness
- Physical durability
- Strength conditioning
- Technique
- Matt exposure
Wrestling sizes
When wrestling you don’t expect to see a heavy weight perform moves that a light weight performs or a light weight wrestle like a heavy weight. When light weights become bigger they can no longer get away with certain actions that may have took them far in competition, this is also true when someone who is slower moving who was a heavier weight who does not move fast lowering their weight to a faster smaller wrestler who knows how to counteract bigger opponents(not as often, because when one losing weight they tend to get a little faster due to holding less weight on body).
Wrestling is no longer the draining of wrestlers sizes like it used to be. someone who weighs 180 lbs naturally can not most likely go down to 135 lbs unless they’re body fat is high and there BMI is higher then normal due to test most states are now implementing hydration test discouraging the techniques of losing weight unhealthy.
Broken up in categories again because what is effective for a light weight will not help a heavier wrestler and vise verse
