Wrestling at the Upper Weight Classes

There are a few heavy weights that are in their own league considering they can shot single legs quick, move fluidly when on their feet and technique is supreme while maintaining a good considerable amount of balance/strength/power. Most times though most heavy weights sacrifise technique for size and power with not as much balance as the lighter weights. In order for them to win they choose not not to get lower then their oponent considering the weight bearing effect of being under them when attempting standard single and double leg takedowns. Unlike lighter weight wrestling the low man is not always the winner although a nice quick single on a heavy weight may be effective its not recommended for bigger slower individuals primarily due to the weight bearing of having to carry a man who may weigh 285lbs on their back.

Like in basket ball the bigger guys are not the ideal 3 point shooters when it comes to their offense–> it is thier inside game that takes the average big man in the game to score double digits. Much like basket ball the heavy weights primary offense comes from heavy pummeling in and looking to finish things from the waist and up. The throws are even harder, the attacks are more powerful then the lighter and slower. Less moves are made during an average wrestling bout between heavy weights then in any other weight class

.Wrestling teaches kids how to overcome problems and giving them a chance to learn values that come from humilitymeaning that instead of them being able to rely on a quarterback, a running back or a whole line that may be better then you are means you can still win a super bowl, college championship, High school championship or at whatever level you are at, possible. In the world of one on one full contact sports you can only rely on one person, yourself. In the stage you are place in front of knows if you are the best or worst on the team because thier is no line, there is no support but coaches and other members of the team on the side line cheering you on to victory. If you win or lose you are the one to blame. … Free weight training programs … Heavy weight wrestling training videos … upperweights13

5 execrises to create a monster heavy weight wrestler

    1. Pummeling- This is essential for a heavy weight to be able to defend himself from bull style wrestling and to give offense for opening up for potential positions for throws
    2. Biking more so then running- The more you have on your body the more wear and tear it has on your knees and running countless miles may have some benafits but may not be worth the price due to on going knee problems.
    3. Hand fighting- working on having the hand advantage can help with wrestlers doing slide bys, front head lock, puting the mans head down and building up strength and endurance in your upper body.
    4. Defensive drills- have a partner try to take the other one down while using different amounts of effort on the offensive man while focusing on the different stages. going through the proper defensive strategy you wish to impliment the example that will be used which works effectively is the sprawling on an angle, crossface across the face, from here there are 2 different ways we go over to finish(a) draging the arm bye and moving behind the wrestler while maintianing adequate pressure on the offensive wrestler, (b) working on getting opponent in a front headlock finishing the move multiple ways

Stage 1: Offense wrestler goes in for a double leg takedown, the intial action of the defense is to sprawl at an angle, placing the weight on the defensive wrestler

Stage 2: defensive wrestle throws in a wizard and cross face, while maintaining body weight on opponent

Stage 3A: place the opponents head down to the mat, while he is atempting to raise up, drag the arm by and secure the 2 points

Stage 3B: Stuff the head down, secure the hand that went across the offensive man face and on top of his head to the thoart and chin grabing his elbow lifting up with your other hand (or by grabing his tricep with the hand that is under his neck –> from here you can do many moves from gator rolls, drag bys, cement mixer or many other varational finishes for the front head lock.

  1. Exercises that increase your stance and balance- Squats, lounges, dead lifts and leg press are key to helping wrestlers with their balance and strength. Most individuals are caught in the bench press focusing on mainly their upper body strength never understanding the need for strength in the legs.
